Submitting authors should provide assurance that all authors included on a paper fulfil the criteria of authorship. In addition, authors should have confidence in the integrity of the contributions of their co-authors. In addition to being accountable for the parts of the work they have done, an author should be able to identify which co-authors are responsible for specific other parts of the work. Therefore, all individuals who meet the first criterion should have the opportunity to participate in the review, drafting and final approval of the manuscript.Ĭontributors who have contributed materially to the paper but whose contributions do not justify authorship should be described clearly in the contributorship statement.
